Churchyard

Public Notice 1st February 2021

St Thomas’ Churchyard is regulated by the Chichester Registry, who update their regulations from time to time.  Under the current regulations for the Burial of Ashes we should move to a ‘Garden of Remembrance’ type plot with no memorial plaques; names and plots being listed solely in a Book of Remembrance held in the church.   Since the churchyard was gifted to the church in 1928 the interment of ashes have taken place in individual plots with a small headstone.  The Vicar and PCC have therefore applied to the Consistory Court of the Diocese of Chichester to ask if we may continue with the system currently in use.   We are required to inform parishioners of this Confirmatory Faculty and to offer anyone the opportunity to raise an objection.  In the first instance, Rev Sharon may be able to help with your concerns at vicar@stthomasgroombridge.org.uk.  Or, you may send a letter stating the grounds of your objection to ChichesterRegistry@wslaw.co.uk. Please register your objection by Friday 12 February 2021.  During this time of Covid-19 restrictions we are encouraged to get the message out to all
